SANTA RITA, PAMPANGA — Mayor Reynan Calo personally led the final preparations for the much-awaited Duman Festival 2025, showing his full support and hands-on leadership as the town celebrates its most cherished heritage crop.
On Thursday, Mayor Calo inspected the plaza grounds, including the setup of “kubuls” or tents for the Night Market vendors. The Night Market, which opens tonight (December 5) with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, will showcase various heritage foods—most especially the famous glutinous green rice locally known as duman.
The mayor has been deeply involved in the festival from start to finish, joining farmers in the planting, harvesting, pounding, and production of duman to highlight its cultural importance. Earlier in his term, Mayor Calo issued his 5th Executive Order focused on preserving and strengthening the duman industry. Even before his first 100 days in office, the local government recognized duman farmers with certificates and financial assistance, underscoring their role in keeping the tradition alive.
The Duman Festival officially opens on December 6, with a pre-program set at 4 p.m. The celebration is expected to draw locals and visitors eager to experience the unique flavor, culture, and pride of Santa Rita’s treasured delicacy.
