In Photos: Piyestang Balen Inter-barangay Basketball Tournament Kicks Off

The Municipality of Santa Rita officially opened the Inter-Barangay Basketball Tournament as part of the Piyestang Balen 2026 celebration this May. The tournament will run over the coming weeks, with the championship game set on May 21.

The opening program gathered participating teams from ten barangays, marking the start of friendly competition and community engagement through sports.

In his message, Mayor Reynan S. Calo reminded players to uphold sportsmanship and enjoy the game. He also acknowledged Santa Rita athletes who are now competing at the professional and national levels, encouraging local players to aim high and pursue the same path. The Mayor also shared that preparations for the town fiesta continue, with efforts focused on making the celebration both festive and transparent.

Mr. Cyrus Cuenco (Brgy. Sta. Monica) of the NCAA Mapúa Cardinals led the Oath of Sportsmanship, while Mr. Danico Pineda (Brgy. San Vicente), the son of Vice Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda delivered a message of encouragement to the players. The ceremonial torch lighting followed, where the flame was passed among the ten participating teams before the final lighting of the main torch.

A highlight of the program was the presentation of each team’s muse, with participants receiving cash prizes.

The tournament continues as part of the Municipality’s efforts to promote sports development and strengthen community participation across barangays.
