Bust of Former President Diosdado P. Macapagal Unveiled in Santa Rita

The Municipality of Santa Rita marked the 29th Death Anniversary of Former President Diosdado P. Macapagal with the unveiling of his bust on April 30, 2026 at the Municipal Grounds.

Leading the ceremony was Mayor Reynan S. Calo, together with former President and Pampanga 2nd District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, daughter of the late President, who served as guest of honor.

In his message, Mayor Calo highlighted the life and legacy of “Apung Dadong,” describing him as a son of farmers from Lubao who rose to become a lawyer, congressman, Vice President, and eventually President of the Philippines. He emphasized Macapagal’s dedication to good governance and his strong support for the farming sector.

The Mayor also shared that the LGU’s Annex Building, housing several national government agencies, was named in honor of the former President. He added that the bust, previously located at the Multi-Purpose Building (now the Legislative Building), was transferred to the Municipal Grounds to give it greater prominence and recognition.

Representative Macapagal-Arroyo, in her message, expressed her gratitude to the Municipality for honoring the legacy of her father.

Part of the program was a “Pamamuge – Poesiang Kapampangan” by Poeta Laureado Billy Beltran of Talagambulan ning Arte, Musika, Poesia, at Ugaling Kapampangan (TAMPUK), paying tribute to the life of the former President through Kapampangan poetry. The ceremony concluded with a wreath-laying activity.

The life and legacy of President Macapagal continue to serve as an inspiration for public service and good governance in Bayung Santa Rita.
